This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter. Antony helps us clearly understand the theme, concisely describing the technology in a logical way, clearly presenting the concepts, and on top of that how everything fits together.

Unlike Mastering Bitcoin by Andreas M. Antonopoulos, which definitely is a book for people who already have a programming background, interestingly The Basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains can be appreciated by readers with different backgrounds. It is an enjoyable and easy reading although a comprehensive exposure to bitcoin and blockchains.

As mentioned on the back cover, this book is a crash course in money, cryptocurrencies, initial coin offerings ICO and enterprise blockchains. As the one responsible for Cash and CBDC strategy at R3, not surprisingly, Antony teaches us everything we have to know from historical facts, physical and digital money, through a smooth introduction to cryptography probably the most understandable explanation about the mechanics of Proof-of-Work , the emergence of cryptocurrencies and digital tokens to the latest thinking about the technology adoption by enterprises.

By and large a delightful read for anyone who wants to understand everything about bitcoins and blockchains. Antony really explains the basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains extremely well just like the title says. This is a subject that is pretty complex and Antony made it simple to understand. Aside from the Bitcoin and Blockchain information, the beginning of the book is an excellent introduction into the basics of how money "works" and "moves.

There are literally millions of businesses and business opportunities that have been created around that concept in the last years due to these changes. For all of the above reasons, I think this book should be required reading for basic economics classes.

Great book. I highly recommend it. I am a long-term reader of Antony's "Bits on Blocks" which is one of the very few references written in a way that can be appreciated by readers with different technical backgrounds. I always recommend my peers to read his blog to build a solid foundation before on boarding their crypto journey.

I highly recommend this book for those who want to know the truth of bitcoin and blockchain. The analogy I can make is that if you want to understand derivatives, you read "Options, Futures and Derivatives" by John Hull; likewise for crytocurrencies and blockchain technologies, "The Basics of Bitcoins and Blockchains" by Antony Lewis.

Really good balance between ease of reading and just enough substance and depth to allow you to understand the basics of blockchain and bitcoin. Top reviews from the United States. There was a problem filtering reviews right now.

Really good balance between ease of reading and just enough substance and depth to allow you to understand the basics of blockchain and bitcoin. The book takes a methodical and structured approach which helped me build understanding on the topic step-by-step.

It is hard to find trusthworthy and well structured knowledge in this space today so I have to say this one is a recommended read. I joined the blockchain industry 3 months ago and I wish this book was out back then Anyway, it's good to get up to speed now. The Basics has helped with my client conversations, especially around the difference between public and private blockchains.

I searched at length for a Bitcoin basics book, and I am glad I came across this one! The concepts are broken down in an easy-to-read, yet informative manner. The book is an education and enjoyable read, from start to finish. If you are looking to start to immerse yourself in the world of Bitcoin and blockchain, do yourself a favor and buy this book!

One person found this helpful. This is the best introduction to blockchain, with plenty of depth too. It's clear and easy to read, without being dumbed down. I love that each idea is built up from scratch, the author doesn't assume any prior knowledge in finance or tech. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. I really enjoyed this for the simplicity and clarity, I find the subject area tends to be unnecessarily obfuscated by complex language and jargon.

What I saw here is a author who is clearly an expert with a chatty conversational style that is akin to having a coffee and listening rather than being blinded by science in a lecture. I'm a interested observer not a developer or involved in the area and found that this was very easy to read but didn't dumb things down either.

I learnt a lot about the technology but also the political and social context which is equally as important. Enjoyable read and some great charts and diagrams that help with the financial context and money flows Five starts highly recommended and great knowledge transfer in a convenient format! The ideal crypto and bitcoin primer, irrespective of the sophistication of the reader. Excellent book from Antony that discusses some complex concepts in an easy to understand manner.

I'd recommend this book as almost compulsory reading for fellow practitioners in the financial services space. Amongst other things Antony provides a great background to how blockchains have evolved, key differences between some prominent blockchains and some potential use cases - including in the financial services sector Highly recommended!

Antony - what can we expect next? I liked the approachable language to some pretty complex concepts. The discourse in the media just skips across the topic but this gets under the bonnet and open your eyes to a world far bigger than just crypto currencies.

It teaches really the basics buy in a very sound way. It's great if you don't have a knowledge of the subject because It provides a very good base to study more technical books.
