Because you have deleted and reset up your email on your devices and changed your password I would suggest that you do the following:. Switch off all your devices or at the least stop them from polling your email account for new email. You can do this by either deleting the email account from the device or just change the email address in your email account settings.
Wait at least 30 minutes before starting one of your devices and set up the email account with the new password. Ensure that you are using the correct settings via this link and set the email accounts up manually rather than using the email wizard. To change the outgoing mail password you have to go into Settings; then scroll down to Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you tap on the outgoing mail server it will show that it is 'on'.
You have to tap on that Primary Server in order to find where the Outgoing password is hidden so you can update it. Since then it's been a downhill ride that's left me with an internet connection that is so slow, watching paint dry would be faster. Sending an email from my bt account on my Macmail takes about 5 minutes even if the contents is only word "test.
Although I can receive emails - i think. I've called bt about six times this week, the odd person just suggests i redo all the steps i've already taken. It'll work for a few minutes and then i'm back to square one. I had one of the BT Tech guys, who told me they normally charge 10 pounds a month for tech device help. I got off the phone and after a half-hearted effort from him i was back watching the paint dry.
The pat response from BT seems to be it's an Apple problem not ours. Call Apple. Well everything worked fine until i had to reset my BT ID password, which lead to having to reset the router. Now I've had over a week of broadband misery. I live in a rural area. I'm meant to have high-speed fibre but that's a joke, streaming is painful. I've reached the point that if BT can't deal with Mac products I should just move to provider that can.
I've read a lot of threads about this, and tried many suggestions, nothing works. I've had BT for well over a decade, and Macs for at least a decade with no problems until this year. A year which has become incredibly frustrating. I was BtYahooMail initially and had no real problems setting up internet accounts into Mail on laptop or phone once finding out about the precise setting up for incoming and outgoing mail. Like other comments I can sign in through web and actually, most of the time can download and send mail on my iPhone, but that's getting more problematic too.
Sometimes the mail is arriving in inbox, but sending is just soul destroying and this is having a huge impact on my work. I've kept with BT to have the security offered, capacity and 'why rock the boat when everything works' and so I was always pretty happy until this year.
And now, here I am, almost back at square 1 for over a week. I'm also rural and so good internet, for speed and reliability in particular, can be a challenge - never mind affordability, but I can't get info on why the changes this year, which only adds to the huge disruption and aggravation.
It will be a huge pain to swap everything over to new 'non-bt' accounts, but I can't get to bottom of this or keep cycling through it. Cracked it, the un-connecting that is now that I have a 70Mbps router. Shut down all wi-fi devices, including the Mac and router.
Re-start router, nothing else. When startup complete, reboot Mac and wait to complete.
